So, I’ll just go ahead and do their research for them, then respond! Here comes the fun!

H.R.147

This bill imposes criminal penalties on anyone who knowingly or knowingly attempts to: (1) perform an abortion knowing that the abortion is sought based on the sex, gender, color or race of the child, or the race of a parent; (2) use force or the threat of force to intentionally injure or intimidate any person for the purpose of coercing a sex-selection or race-selection abortion; (3) solicit or accept funds for the performance of such an abortion; or (4) transport a woman into the United States or across a state line for the purpose of obtaining such an abortion.”

This bill is basically further making illegal eugenics-based abortions. Not abortions in general. But let’s get in a tizzy over this one because it dares mention banning any kind of abortion. Abortions for all! Two abortions for you, five for you! Look at all these filthy white male babies. Look. They must be exterminated!

H.R.610

The bill establishes an education voucher program, through which each state shall distribute block grant funds among local educational agencies (LEAs) based on the number of eligible children within each LEA’s geographical area. From these amounts, each LEA shall: (1) distribute a portion of funds to parents who elect to enroll their child in a private school or to home-school their child, and (2) do so in a manner that ensures that such payments will be used for appropriate educational expenses.”

Seriously, what kind of sick bastard would want to allow the federal funding of elementary education to be given any kind of choices for the parents themselves? That’s all this is. It is a voucher system for parents to seek educational resources outside of the broken and quickly failing public system while not having to give up nearly as much of their own money to privately educate their children. I guess it’s best we just keep shoveling money at the failing system seeing as how graduation rates are only moving up every year!

Oh. Wait.

H.J.R.69

This joint resolution nullifies the rule finalized by the Department of the Interior on August 5, 2016, relating to non-subsistence takings of wildlife and public participation and closure procedures on National Wildlife Refuges in Alaska.“

In other words, this is a vote to repeal a ruling enacted without a vote by a government agency. Let’s be clear here: This is repealing something that was put into place without democracy using democracy. But fuck democracy when it doesn’t suit you, right?

H.R.354

This bill prohibits, for a one-year period, the availability of federal funds for any purpose to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., or any of its affiliates or clinics, unless they certify that the affiliates and clinics will not perform, and will not provide any funds to any other entity that performs, an abortion during such period. This restriction does not apply in cases of rape or incest or where a physical condition endangers a woman’s life unless an abortion is performed.“

Okay, let’s speak clearly on this one: This defunds Planned Parenthood if they perform “emergency birth control” type abortions, where a mother simply decides she doesn’t want the baby she’s created. This does not stop them from performing these operations for women who are victims of rape, incest, or where a woman’s life depends on it. This is important, because this is not what we’re being told this law does. Just as the first entry, this is a vast exaggeration of the truth. Abortions will still be legal, and Planned Parenthood can still perform them while getting their free money from the government and being a private company. In fact, if Planned Parenthood decides to stop doing abortions, which they claim aren’t even a large part of their business, they will still get the same funding! The big, convincing argument used to allow the company to continue to receive funds is that they provide many preventive and sexual health services aside from abortions, and that the termination of a pregnancy is a tiny part of what they do. If this is true, then they could subsist pretty well with just the other activities and still provide the services that aren’t incredibly divisive, while still making us all pay for it!

They only have to worry about this for one year.

H.R. 370

I won’t bother quoting the text on this one as it is exactly what it says on the tin. It is a vote to repeal the A.C.A., or “Obamacare”, on January 1, 2020. 3 years from now. So if Trump doesn’t get re-elected, we could be in a horrible hellhole of terrible things like cheaper insurance, choice in plans, and no individual mandate for a whole year. Oh the humanity! It will be chaos! Cats and dogs will lie together! The lamb will slaughter the lion! The stars will rain from the sky! Things will be pretty much like they were in 2007, when people who worked for a living got cheap copays and people who wanted to suckle at the government’s teat had… copays.

Wait, is this bad? I can’t really tell.

OH, but women won’t be able to get birth control pills for free anymore, and they’ll have to pay for tubal ligation, just like men have to pay for vasectomy right now.

H.R.808

This one doesn’t have a summary, so I did a quick review of the document to get an idea of what it actually says. As with most laws, it’s extremely dense. From everything I can gather out of the document, please excuse me if there are any exceptions here, it appears that this bill is saying “:Hey, Iran, stop with the bombing of Jews or we’ll call you bad names and stop selling you crap and letting your asshole leaders into our country”. Not really very toothy of a bill, but that’s a sanction for you. They’re pretty pointless in reality, but it’s a continuation of something that President Obama was doing in 2015. Not so bad now, is it?

H.R.785

Again, no summary, but read the bill yourself. Admittedly, it does effectively neuter labor unions in the United States by taking away their ability to force laborers to join them or be disallowed from joining that job. Unions were once a great force in this country, but have become little more than the mob, many actually having tentative relations to several organized crime groups. Collective bargaining is a great thing, but when that bargaining comes along with extreme political campaign contributions, it becomes distasteful. I’m not completely in favor of this law, but right to work states do tend to be pretty damn productive, economically. It doesn’t outlaw collective bargaining. It just takes away the ability to force other workers into this collective bargaining scheme. After all, if you just want to do your 8 hours, get a paycheck, and not give money to some sleazy politician, fuck you, right?

H.R.83

This bill prohibits a state or local government from receiving federal financial assistance for a minimum of one year if it restricts or prohibits a government entity or official from: (1) sending to or receiving from the responsible federal immigration agency information regarding an individual’s citizenship or immigration status, or (2) maintaining or exchanging information about an individual’s status.“

Yep, this is the one we’ve been hearing about so much. Isn’t it just terrible to think that cities could possibly lose their federal funding for the harmless and innocent act of obstructing justice? Let’s be clear here: Sanctuary cities are breaking federal law by hiding and giving aid to criminal aliens. Since you can’t exactly arrest a city, they’re doing the next best thing: defunding them at the federal level.

See, you don’t get to shout about the evils of “states rights” when it comes to a state saying that men shouldn’t be in women’s bathrooms just because they wear a dress, call themselves “Jill” and put on some lipstick that is so beautifully accentuated by their lantern jaws and beards, then complain when the federal government decides to step in on a case where the tenth amendment really doesn’t protect. Immigration is very clearly a federal responsibility, which states can actively help with. Lookin’ at you, Apraio haters.

H.R.899

Well, damn. Short and sweet on this one. The full text of the bill is about as long as most of these summaries. Simply put, this bill gets rid of the U.S. Department of Education. You know that whole “states rights” issue from the Constitution? That thing we just talked about? Yeah. Education is a state issue, not a federal one. The existence of a national education board is absolutely ridiculous. We live in a place where you can travel freely from one state to another and move to a better state if you want to. If the educational standards in your state absolutely suck, then you can run away to one that doesn’t suck. Or, y’know, take those free funds from the government and get some private education for your kids! At that point, when the state starts seeing these funds not going to their shithole schools, they can react in a much more rapid manner to make actual improvements to their system! The abject horror.

H.R.861

Another quickie bill. Very simple, very effective: Let’s just say goodbye to the EPA. This one I’m actually not in favor of. I do, however, support some serious revamps to the agency, which does little more than hinder industry. They’ve done some good things, like getting rid of all that lead in the air and… paint… and they’ve saved the public health to an extent, but at this point, they’re telling companies they can’t pollute in this part of the river, but that part of the river’s juuuust fine.

They’re dropping the ball.

That about wraps this up. There is a ton of bullshit in this list. I don’t support all these bills myself, but we need to be honest and crystal-clear what they actually mean, rather than simply assuming they’re going to be the apocalypse. Many of these are simply objectionable to the far-left, so they try to tidy things up by making the bills seem far more evil than they actually are.

This is a right-leaning Congress. They want to clean a little house, since the Republicans currently own all the things. Trump is essentially their errand boy for approving this kind of stuff, and frankly, I don’t mind that for most of this. I absolutely cannot abide by a lot of what’s happened lately in terms of laws, but that’s nothing new compared to the last 17 years of legislation. Clinton did some damn good things, as well as some pretty shitty things, but I’d say overall, he did pretty well. The last two guys? Not so much. Trump? Well, hit-or-miss with some of these. That whole “yeah, go ahead and spy on your customers to get ad revenue” thing is pretty bullshit, and Net Neutrality, while very far from perfect, was the slightly-better alternative than letting Comcast, AT&T, TWC, and… y’know, all those other competing companies that actually don’t exist because those three are an oligopoly that controls the vast majority of our nation’s internet, with one or two of them “competing” in each market. But really, saying Comcast and AT&T are competitors is like saying that a two-lane 55mph highway competes with a 6-lane 70mph freeway. Except it’s more like 35mph and 250mph. One’s just simply faster.
